Grass of the same family as the поцеа, it grows in the wettest areas of the Forest.
The upper spike of the маыдеа contains round brown seeds that are crushed into flour for homin consumption.
Like the поцеа, its stem takes on a spiral shape in spring. It also produces a substance used to stiffen clothing fibres (starch).
